Knitting under the northern lights

Day 1

Pickup in Reykjavík - Meet your guide and fellow knitter Herdís Friðriksdóttir.  Stop by Álafoss, the largest woolshop in Iceland. Once in Borgafjörður, the group settle in the guesthouse which is located in the ourskirts of Borgarnes, by a beautiful river. The guesthouse is newly renovated but keeps it original style and cosiness. Guests can snuggle in the old living room by the fire with a good cup of coffee and knitting needles. 

Lunch - dinner included.

Day 2

A morning session with local knitters from KviKvi where the group will learn about the uniquness of the Icelandic wool. The group will learn how to prepare the wool, and will get a hands on experiencw with wrapping it and spinning before knitting. 

In the afternoon the group will visit the Settlement center in Borgarnes where they will have a lovely lunch. They will then learn about the settlement and sagas of Iceland through an exhibition. The center has a lovely giftshop filled with local souvenirs and books on culture and heritage.  The visit will be followed with a tour in the local area where some of the events from the sagas happened. 

The group will also visit a local farmers market with hand made wool products and local delicatessens.

Day 3

In the morning the group visit Ullarselið wool shop that is filled with unique Icelandic wool and wool products. Then they will visit Guðrún Bjarnadóttir at Hespa studio. She will provide a workshop in how to hand dye Icelandic wool with plants, according to the old Icelandic traditions.  In the afternoon the group will visit Bjarteyjarsandur farm where you will get an introduction to the Icelandic sheep and local agriculture

Day 4 

The group will drive to Háafell goat farm and where they will learn about the Icelandic settlement goat. In Reykholt the group will learn about Snorri Sturluson and his sagas. On the way the group will visit waterfalls, a hot spring and a volcanic crater.

Day 5

The last morning the group will have a little time in the morning for knitting and reflecting. After checkout the group will drive to Akranes town for sightseeing and a lunch before returning to Reykjavík.

Lunch is included.

Duration: 5 days / 4 nights in October and March.
